Differences between Original, Remanufactured and Compatible Inkjet Printer Cartridges
This article explains the principal differences between the different printer cartridges. There are three main types of cartridges.
Original Manufacturers (OEM) Cartridges:
These items are the same as supplied with your printer when you purchased it. They are made by the original manufacturer of your printer. Be aware however that some cartridges are sometimes in "Hi-Yield" versions at a small extra cost but contain more ink and are more cost effective. Our website shows full details of all our products, so that you may make a choice Many manufacturers supply different capacities of cartridge that contain different amounts of Ink.
Compatible Inkjet Cartridges:
The Cartridges are NOT produced by the original manufacturer but work in place of the original cartridge. They function in exactly the same way as the original, but at a FRACTION of the price! Compatible cartridges are not available for every printer, if a Compatible cartridge is not available then a remanufactured one maybe (see below). If an alternative version of the original cartridge is available then it will be either a compatible or remanufactured version. Recently some Original Manufacturers have been putting a small "chip" on the cartridge. Compatible cartridges may also contain a chip (like the original), these are called Chipped Compatible Cartridges. Compatible Inkjet Cartridges are generally available for Epson and Canon Printer.
Remanufactured Inkjet Cartridges:
Where Compatible cartridges are not available for your printer (usually on cartridges that contain the print head) then remanufactured cartridges may be available instead. These are Original Cartridges that have been used before and then remanufactured and refilled. Remanufactured Cartridges are generally available for Hewlett Packard, Lexmark and some Canon Printers.
Which one should I choose?
For each and every models of printer, the ink supply may be different. A same kind of technology will not be there for all printers. So while the printer manufacturer designs a new printer, with a special technology, the ink for that printer also is set by the manufacturer. The ink specification of that special supply is the reason for the perfectness of print-outs taken from that printer. That is why, for each printer, the consumables are different. To make each of their product unique, are the manufacturers doing this way. So the original manufacturer only is aware of the exact ink specification, which the compatible supply makers or remanufacturers are unaware of. Even then the remanufactures and compatible supply makers can make the cartridges which may suit the printer. But it WONT give you the actual yield. The number of copies got from using an original cartridge will ALWAYS be more than that of from a compaible or remanufactured one.And also, the wrong composition of ink consumed to your printer parts, WILL damage your printer too. Also, be reminded that the printer manufacturers will NOT give guarentee to the printer, if it is found used by a cartridge which is not from them.
So, please do avoid using compatible or remanufactured cartridges to safe guard your valuable printers. Ensure that the original cartridges from the original manufacturers are consumed.
